despair, mania, obsession, irrationalism, and suicide in a malay movie

I have always been fascinated by the moral behind the story Batu Belah Batu Bertangkup below; a Malay folklore about haunted giant boulder that gobbles people up in order for the hungry ghost in it to continue to survive after as spell was cast on him by a Bugis warrior.

The scene below is a window to a multiple analysis of the class structure of the Malay society against the backdrop of syncretism/animism. The mind of the author of the folklore is a good subject of analysis as well. 'Reading' the story now and reading it when I was ten or eleven present a dilemma of critical analysis-- what tools to use and what to compromise vis-a-viz hermeneutics and historicism.

batu belah batu bertangkup movie shows how the word "kempunan" means in the Malays culture and the serious impact it gives to the deepest emotional state of the Malays within their society which, to my mind, is similar to harakiri in Japanese culture pursuant to the concept of suicide. the difference perhaps, the Japanese has refined the manner in puesuing the suicide and the philosophy of harakiri whilst the in the Malay culture, suicide is relied on a specific ultra object to materialized the suicide act which implies that suicide is not a culture or a norm within the Malays.
